Voyage Houston, the city guide that spotlights local businesses and creatives, featured Aytan Taghiyeva in its Community Highlights series. In the interview, Aytan talks about starting over in America, the idea behind her jewelry brand MOONOstore, and what she has learned as a small-business founder.
Starting from zero
Years ago, Aytan and her husband left a comfortable life behind to start fresh in the United States, arriving with their newborn daughter. Like many newcomers, they had to rebuild everything from the ground up. Through those early, difficult days in New York, Aytan leaned on three things she describes as a trinity:
“Faith, love, and patience.”
From library books to engraved jewelry
Every day, Aytan took her daughter to their neighborhood library. While her little girl played with other children, Aytan read, and found herself collecting the aphorisms and beautiful sayings that helped her see life more clearly. Over time an idea took shape: what if those words didn’t have to stay in books, but could be engraved on jewelry and carried every day?
After a year of research, learning and many sleepless nights, MOONOstore launched as an online shop for jewelry engraved with meaningful aphorisms, designed to help people express who they are and stay connected to what matters most.
Lessons along the way
As a young brand, the focus was on building a name in the community, backed by a strong logo and a clear marketing plan. And the biggest lesson? Customer relationships and trust come first. They are what help a small business grow.
Where the story continues
That same love of storytelling now shapes everything we do at MOONO, from photo sessions in our Houston studio to the marketing and video work we create for schools and businesses. Here is the MOONOstore brand video:
